Switch from Drake Accounting
How to export your books from Drake Accounting and bring them into Pop Books.
Updated Nov 2, 2026
Drake Accounting can export a few lists and reports to a spreadsheet or CSV file. Pop Books accepts .csv and .xlsx from Drake Accounting.
What to export
- Open the chart of accounts and the client list, and export each to a spreadsheet or CSV file if the screen offers it.
- Open Reports, then Trial Balance. Set the date to your cut-over date and export it.
- Only for full history: open Reports, then General Ledger, set the dates to cover everything, and export.
Drake Accounting's column names are among the least certain parts of this importer. Every column can be re-mapped by hand. It brings in no items list.
Then, in Pop Books
- Choose Switch from… in the side rail and pick Drake Accounting.
- Drop in your files, or paste cells. Pop Books checks the columns and shows what it found. You can change any match.
- Choose your cut-over date. This is the day you start in Pop Books.
- Choose what to bring in. Balances at the cut-over date is recommended. Full general ledger history brings in every journal.
- Run the dry run. It shows what would come in and any rows to look at. Nothing is written.
- Choose Bring it in.
- Download the proof check (PDF). It sets the old trial balance next to the new one at the cut-over date and lists any difference.
Good to know
- You can choose Undo this switch for 30 days. Documents are voided and entries reversed. The history keeps both.
- Credit notes and partly paid documents are not brought in as documents. They are listed as rows to look at.
- Menu names change between releases of Drake Accounting. If a name differs, look for the closest one.
- No real export from Drake Accounting has been tried yet. The steps come from its documentation.
- Pop Books never signs in to Drake Accounting and makes no network call to it.
