The Customers screen lists the people and companies you work for. You will be able to find a customer, add a new one and open a record to read the balance and change the details.
Before you start #
You need the owner, manager, advisor or dispatcher role.
Steps #
- Open Customers. The list shows Name, Company, Phone, Email and "Customer since". Choose "Show more" to load more rows.
- Search by name, company, email, phone or plate. Type in "Search for" and choose Search.
- To add a customer, open "Add a customer". Enter a Name and a phone number or an email, and fill in what you know: Company, Address, City, State, Postal code, "Preferred contact" (Text message, Phone call or Email), "Account terms" and Notes. Choose "Save the customer".
- The new record opens. When the customer already exists, the screen says "name is already a customer, so nothing was added."
- Choose a name in the list to open the customer record. The heading shows the customer's name and "Back to customers" returns to the list.
- Read the summary: "Open balance", "Customer since", Source and "Marketing messages" (Yes or No).
- Read the Vehicles table: Vehicle, Plate and VIN. Choose "Add or change vehicles" to manage them.
- Change the details under Details and choose Save. The record confirms with "Saved."
Good to know #
- A name and either a phone number or an email are needed. Without them the screen says "Enter a name and a phone number or an email."
- The same customer picker (Find a customer, then Matching customers) appears on the Vehicles and New invoice screens. Search by name, phone, email or plate, then pick a customer from the list. Choose Clear to pick again.
Technical details
- The list loads 25 customers a page from
/customers. A new customer posts to/customers, and a record change patches/customers/{id}. - The vehicles link opens the Vehicles screen with the customer chosen.
If something goes wrong #
- "Check the highlighted fields and try again.": correct the marked fields.
- A name appears twice in a search: open each record and compare the phone number and email.
