Trailer tracking

See where each trailer is: hooked to a truck, dropped at a customer, or in your yard, with its last GPS position.

The Trailers screen lists every active trailer with its current state, how long it has been there, the load it is on, and the last position its tracker reported.

Before you start #

  • Add each trailer in Fleet (kind trailer, ownership operator).
  • A tracker on the trailer reports positions through the same intake as truck trackers.

Steps #

  1. Open Trailers. Each row shows Hooked (with the truck), Dropped (with the place) or In yard.
  2. When a truck picks up a trailer, choose Hook and pick the truck.
  3. When a trailer is left at a customer, choose Drop and type the place.
  4. When a trailer comes back to your yard, choose Yard and type the spot.
  5. Open a trailer to read its history of moves.

A trailer already hooked to a truck cannot be hooked to another until it is dropped.

Technical details
  • GET /trucking/trailers, GET and POST /trucking/trailers/:id/events. An event takes kind (hook, drop, yard), truck_id for a hook, place, load_id, at and note.

If something goes wrong #

  • This trailer is hooked to another truck: record the drop first.
