# Receiving e-invoices as draft bills

On Reports, E-invoices & audit files, choose Receive an e-invoice, pick the file and import it. You can use a UBL or CII XML file, or a Factur-X or ZUGFeRD PDF with the XML inside.

What happens. A draft bill is made with the supplier's number, dates and lines. If the supplier is missing from your vendors (matched by tax number, then by name), a vendor is added. Lines go to your first expense account, or to the one you set as inbound expense account in company settings. Nothing is posted: open the bill, check the accounts and tax, and post it yourself.

Limits. The invoice must be in your company currency. Credit notes are not imported; record them by hand. The same file cannot be imported twice. A PDF whose attachment is hidden inside a compressed object stream cannot be read; ask the sender for the XML.

Pop Books makes the file. You send it. Pop Books does not connect to any tax authority, portal or Peppol access point, and it does not file anything for you. The layout notes were last reviewed in 2026-11; confirm unusual cases with your adviser or provider before you rely on a file in a new country.
