# XRechnung (Germany)
What it is. XRechnung is the German version of the European e-invoice standard. Pop Books makes it in both syntaxes: UBL and CII.
Set up. Give each public-sector customer their buyer reference (the Leitweg-ID) under Customer details. XRechnung requires it. If it is empty, the invoice number is used and a warning appears.
Where it goes. For federal bodies, upload to the ZRE portal (central invoice receipt) or the OZG-RE portal, or send through your provider or a Peppol access point. State and local bodies publish their own receiving address; the customer tells you which.
ZUGFeRD. For business customers who prefer a PDF, use the Factur-X / ZUGFeRD format instead. See the Factur-X article.
Books for the tax adviser. The DATEV-style export is in its own article.
Pop Books makes the file. You send it. Pop Books does not connect to any tax authority, portal or Peppol access point, and it does not file anything for you. The layout notes were last reviewed in 2026-11; confirm unusual cases with your adviser or provider before you rely on a file in a new country.
