# TDS and TCS in Pop Books
TDS is tax you hold back when you pay a supplier. TCS is tax you collect when you sell. Both must be paid in with a challan and reported each quarter.
Set up
- Save your TAN in Setup.
- Open the TDS tab, Sections. Add each section you use, with the rate, the rate when the supplier gives no PAN, and the yearly threshold. You type these from the current rules. Add the starter list gives a first list only. Check every figure.
Deduct
On Deduct on a bill choose an issued bill, the section and the supplier PAN. The tax is posted to a liability account. If the yearly threshold has not been reached the amount may be zero.
Pay and record
Pay the tax on the portal or at the bank. Then use Challans, Record a challan with the BSR code, challan number and date. Pop Books matches it with the tax you deducted. Outstanding lists tax not yet matched.
Files
On 26Q, 27Q and 16A choose the quarter (April to June is Q1). Download the data file, open it in the free return preparation utility, check it and file from there. Form 16A makes a PDF certificate for one supplier.
