The Live map shows the last known position of every active asset that is sending positions. You will be able to read each asset's tracking state, show its track for the last 24 hours and spot assets that have never reported.
Before you start #
You need the dispatcher, advisor, manager or owner role. Assets send positions during a shift or a trip. See "Live positions, tracking consent and gaps".
Steps #
- Open Live map. The legend counts assets in four states: Live, Gap, Quiet for a day and No position.
- Read the pins on the map. Each pin carries the unit name and its state. Choose a pin to select that asset.
- Read the Positions table: Asset, Tracking, Last position and Latitude, longitude. Choose an asset name to open the asset.
- Choose Show track on a row. The map draws the last 24 hours, and the Track section reports the number of positions and gaps with the times of each gap. Choose Hide track to remove it.
- Choose Refresh now, or wait. The map updates every 30 seconds.
- Read Assets with no position for active assets that have never sent a position.
A distance worked out from positions is an estimate and never changes the odometer.
Technical details
- The page reads
/fleet/live,/fleet/assets/{id}/positionsand/map-config.json. - A silence of more than 300 seconds counts as a gap. Live means the last position is within 300 seconds, Gap up to a day, and Quiet for a day beyond that.
- With no map file set up, positions appear on a plain grid. A map file needs its credit text, and the page shows the credit under the map.
If something goes wrong #
- "No base map is set up, so positions appear on a plain grid.": the pins and tables still work. Add a self-hosted map file to see streets.
- A message that the credit is missing: add the attribution text to the map settings file.
- "No asset has sent a position yet.": start a shift or a trip so positions arrive.
