Checked against Pop Street Dispatch 0.1.0

On the office server you can draw a zone, store a road, let the desk rank units for a job, send a message, keep a signature and bring in a spreadsheet. The office computer runs the server and holds the company data.

Before you start #

  • An owner or a manager for mail settings and spreadsheet import. A dispatcher can draw zones, store roads, rank units and send messages.
  • Starter, Pro and Business each include the office app and this local server. The 45-day offline allowance stays as already set.
  • A mail host that accepts ordinary SMTP on the port you name, when you want email to leave the office.

Steps #

  1. Open the dispatch zones list and save a zone: a name and at least three latitude and longitude points. The server answers with the zone, and a point inside the ring comes back in covering.
  2. Save a road edge with a start, an end and a length in metres. A route whose ends sit on that edge answers source graph and the stored length. A point away from every stored road answers source straight, using the straight-line length times 1.25.
  3. Post auto-assign with the job, or with a point. The answer ranks units that are on shift. Apply it to a tow job and the same assignment rules the board uses put that driver on the call.
  4. Send an in-app message to an active person. It appears in that person's inbox. Send email once the office mail host and from address are saved. Until a host is saved, the message stays held.
  5. Save a signature with the purpose (estimate, release, storage or other), the consent version, the device, the signer and the two 64-character hashes. The server stamps the time and the address.
  6. Import a CSV of customers, drivers or vehicles. A dry run writes nothing. Apply writes the rows, and a cell that starts like a spreadsheet formula is stored with a leading apostrophe.

If something goes wrong #

  • "That name is already in use." Choose another zone name.
  • "No unit is free to take this job." Put a unit on shift, give it a position, or clear the expired document that blocks it.
  • "The mail server asked for a secure connection. Point Dispatch at a relay that accepts mail on this port." Use a relay that accepts mail on the port you set.
  • "No customer has that phone." Import the customer first, then the vehicle, using the same phone.
Technical details

Routes live under /api/v1/dispatch on the office server. Zone rings are latitude, longitude pairs. Road edges snap within 2 kilometres and travel at 13 metres per second. Expired driver licence, medical card, registration, insurance and inspection block assignment. A date due within 30 days warns. The mail password is sealed and left out of backups. CSV import accepts 500 data rows.
