Trucking lets a freight carrier run a load from booking to payment: book it, give it to a driver, a truck and a trailer, collect proof of delivery, bill the broker or shipper, pay the driver and file fuel tax. This article gets you ready to book the first load.
Before you start #
- Trucking needs the
dispatch_truckinglicence flag. Every edition includes it. Without it you can read and print everything you already have, and writes are refused with a message that the licence has no Trucking. - You need the Fleet module for trucks, trailers, fuel and documents. Trucking uses what Fleet holds.
Steps #
- Open Trucking in the menu. The board shows one column for each stage of a load.
- Choose Carrier details and type your MC number and DOT number. They print on every rate confirmation and bill of lading. You can also type the terms that print at the foot of a rate confirmation.
- In Fleet, add each truck (kind vehicle, ownership operator) and each trailer (kind trailer, ownership operator). Add each driver under People, then switch on the driver profile.
- Add each broker and shipper under Customers. For each one, open the trucking profile: choose broker or shipper, type the MC number if there is one, and set the payment terms in days. Terms set the due date of the invoice.
- Add a pay profile for each driver. See "Driver settlements".

If something goes wrong #
- feature_not_licensed: the licence has no Trucking. Ask the owner about adding it.
- A driver cannot be chosen: the person needs an active driver profile.
