Checked against Pop Dispatch 0.1.0

The Windows app has the same screens as the Mac app. The sidebar lists the ones your role can open, in the same order. You will be able to open any screen, do the usual jobs without a mouse, and know what the Map and Import data need on Windows.

Before you start #

Sign in with your own account. Your role decides what the sidebar shows, and the server checks the same rule again. Screens that show nothing for your role are left out instead of showing an error.

Steps #

  1. Press Ctrl+1 to Ctrl+9 to open the first nine screens in the sidebar. Press Ctrl+K and type part of a name to open any other screen.
  2. Press Ctrl+N to add something new on the screen in front: a call, an invoice, a customer, a vehicle, a truck, a driver, a yard record, a trip on the Taxi desk, a rate book, a part, a rotation list, a motor-club job, an impound, an airport queue or a billing account.
  3. Select a row and press Ctrl+E to change it. Press Ctrl+R to read the screen again. Press Ctrl+F to search a list that has a search box.
  4. Press F6 to move between the sidebar and the screen. Press F1 for help about the screen you are on, and Ctrl+Shift+S to send changes that are waiting.
  5. In a window that asks for details, press Enter for the main button and Esc to leave without saving.

Every button has a name that Narrator reads. A status always shows an icon and a word next to its colour, and the app follows the Windows light, dark and high contrast themes.

The Taxi desk #

The Taxi screen is one desk with a bar of sections: Board, Trips, Standing, Vouchers, Rates, Fleet, Log and Airport. Press Ctrl+Alt+1 to Ctrl+Alt+8 to move between them. Vouchers shows only for the owner, managers and advisors. Rates, Fleet and the mail settings can be changed by the owner and managers and read by everyone else. A change that needs the server, such as a quote, a dispatch or a void, says so and waits while this computer is offline.

Money, rates and rules #

  • Receivables and Statements are for the owner, managers and advisors. Statements also holds the monthly run: the owner chooses the day and whether each statement is emailed, and the run log lists what each month did.
  • An invoice detail has Void and Write off for the owner and managers. Both ask for a reason.
  • Rates holds the price books. Reports lists the reports and exports each one as CSV or PDF.
  • The yard record has Overview, Lien, Fees, Disposal and Checks. Lien and auctions lists the steps that are due and the vehicles listed for auction.
  • Settings has Customer languages, Compliance rules, Yard lien schedule and Mail server and public address.

The Map #

The Map screen shows the same map as the web console, so the pins and the map tiles match. A list of every unit sits beside it with its tracking state, the time of its last report and a search box. Choose a unit to read its coordinates and a summary of the last 24 hours. The list works with the keyboard and Narrator even when the map picture cannot be drawn.

  • The map needs the server. Offline, the screen says so and starts again when the connection returns.
  • The map is drawn by the Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime that comes with Windows 11 and recent Windows 10. If it is missing, the screen says the map is unavailable and offers Open in browser.

Import data #

Settings has an Import data card for the owner. Choose Open import page and your browser opens the web console page that reads spreadsheet files. While first-time setup is still open it is the setup page, which brings in customers, drivers, trucks and vehicles. After setup it is the Fleet import page, which brings in fleet assets and meter readings. The browser asks you to sign in, because it does not share the app's sign-in.

Technical details

The app builds the page address from the server address in Settings. It reads GET /setup/status to choose between /setup and /fleet/data. The map page sits at /map on the same server. The app puts its own sign-in token into the browser view's session storage for that origin only, and removes it when you leave the screen. Nothing is written to a file.

If something goes wrong #

  • A list shows "The server cannot be reached". The app shows the last copy it saved with a yellow bar, or an error with Retry when it holds no copy. Choose Retry once the connection is back.
  • An action says "This needs the server". Releases, links, turns in a rotation, queue changes and statements need the server's answer and wait for the connection.
  • The Map says it is unavailable. Install the WebView2 runtime from Microsoft, or use the list beside the map.
