Checked against Pop Dispatch 0.1.0

Documents come from the server, signatures are drawn in a box on the screen, and pictures are chosen from files on this computer. You will be able to print or save a document, collect a signature on a release, and attach pictures to an impound.

Before you start #

  • You need the dispatcher, advisor, manager or owner role, the same as for the screen that holds the document.
  • Documents need the server. Offline, the button says "This needs the server" and works again when the connection is back.
  1. Open the record: a call for the tow ticket, a yard record or impound for the release form and lien notice, a repair order, an invoice, or a billing account statement.
  2. Choose the document button, for example Tow ticket, Release form, Lien notice, Repair order or Invoice. A short menu opens with Print, Save as a file and Open.
  3. Choose Print. The app saves the PDF in a temporary folder and uses the PDF viewer's own print command, so Windows shows its print window. A viewer without a print command opens the file instead, and the screen tells you to press Ctrl+P there.
  4. Choose Save as a file to pick a folder and a file name. Choose Open to read it in your PDF viewer first.
  5. Statements and trip lists also come as CSV files for a spreadsheet. Those two menus show Save as a file and Open only.

Draw a signature #

  1. In the release window, find the Sign here box.
  2. Draw with a mouse, a finger on a touch screen, or a pen. Choose Clear to start again. The box shows Signature drawn once it holds ink, and Narrator reads that status.
  3. If the person signed a paper form instead, tick Signed on the paper form. Nothing needs to be drawn then.
  4. Choose the release button. The signature is stored with the release as a picture, black ink on a white page.

Attach a picture #

  1. In the window that asks for a picture, such as a new impound with its signage and vehicle photos, choose Choose a picture.
  2. Pick a file. JPEG, PNG, WebP, BMP, GIF and TIFF files that Windows can open work. The app makes a JPEG with its long side no longer than 2,000 pixels, which keeps it under the server's 10 MB limit.
  3. The file name shows beside the button. Choose Change to pick another file, or Remove to attach nothing.
Technical details

Documents are fetched with the same server address and sign-in token the app uses for everything else, then written to a temporary folder named psd-documents for Print and Open, or to the place you pick for Save as. The signature box is drawn by the app from the points you draw. The strokes become a 600 by 200 pixel PNG sent as a data: address in the signature field of the release. Pictures are sent as data:image/jpeg;base64, text in the photo fields.

If something goes wrong #

  • "The file could not be saved or opened. Try again." The folder may be locked. Choose another folder or Open first.
  • "That file cannot be read as a picture." Choose a JPEG or PNG copy of it.
  • A document says the server refused it. The message is the server's own, for example that the lien notice needs its wording saved first. See the lien notice template article.
