The Mac app: installing and updates
How to install Pop Books on a Mac, the one-time warning, and what to expect when it updates.
Updated Nov 2, 2026
Pop Books runs as a Mac app on Apple silicon and Intel Macs (macOS 14 or newer). It opens the same company files as the Windows app.
Installing
- Download the Mac file from your download page and open it.
- Drag Pop Books onto the Applications folder in the window.
- Open Pop Books from Applications and enter your licence key when it asks.
The first time you open it
Signed installers are coming soon; this early version shows a warning the first time. Your Mac says Apple could not verify Pop Books.
- Click Done (not Move to Bin).
- Open the Apple menu, then System Settings, then Privacy & Security.
- Scroll down to Security. Next to the line about Pop Books, click Open Anyway.
- Type your Mac password or use Touch ID, then click Open Anyway once more.
You do this once. Only install a file you got from Pop Books, and check its SHA-256 against the download page.
Updates
The app tells you when a new version is available, and it checks the update is signed by Pop Books, that its size and checksum match, and that your update plan covers it before it installs anything.
After each update, macOS may ask for your Mac password so Pop Books can unlock your books. This goes away once our signed Mac version arrives. Your books are not touched: type your password and choose Always Allow.
Make a backup before a big update. See backups-snapshots.
