Checked against Pop Dispatch 0.1.0

Auto-assign lists the drivers in the order of their travel time to a pickup, with the reason when a driver cannot take the job. You can then give the job to the first driver, or to another driver with a reason. The same page holds the skills dispatch looks for and a check of the documents that block an assignment.

Before you start #

You need the dispatcher, advisor, manager or owner role. Drivers need a position from the driver app to be ranked. Add skills first if some jobs need one, such as a winch-out.

Steps #

  1. Choose Auto-assign and skills in the menu.
  2. Under Rank the drivers for a job, choose a job, or enter a latitude and longitude. A job uses its pickup pin.
  3. Add the skills the job needs, separated by commas, and a truck type if it matters, for example flatbed.
  4. Choose Rank the drivers. The table lists each driver with the minutes and distance to the pickup. Drivers who cannot take the job show the reasons: off shift, already on a job, a missing skill, another truck type, an expired document or no position.
  5. The line under the table names the driver chosen, the nearest one on shift.
  6. To assign the job, choose Assign the job. To use another driver, pick the driver and type why. The reason is saved with the decision.
  7. Under Driver skills, add a skill for a driver with Add a skill and remove one with Remove. Skills are matched without regard to capital letters.
  8. Under Document check, choose a driver and Check documents. The answer says whether a document has expired, which blocks an assignment, and lists the documents due within 30 days.
Technical details
  • Routes: POST /dispatch/auto-assign (send apply: true with a job_id to assign), GET /dispatch/expiry?person_id=&asset_id=, GET/POST /dispatch/skills and DELETE /dispatch/skills/:id. All need the Tow group of roles.
  • Ranking order: drivers who can take the job first, then the shortest travel time, then the lower driver id. Travel time follows stored roads when there are any, and a straight line otherwise.
  • Blocking documents are the driver licence, medical card, registration, insurance and inspection. Documents due within 30 days only add a note.
  • A skill holds up to 40 characters and can be added once for each person.

If something goes wrong #

  • "Give a point or a job with a pickup pin": choose a job or enter a latitude and longitude.
  • "That job has no pickup pin": the call has no map position. Enter the point by hand.
  • "No unit is free to take this job": every driver is off shift, busy or missing a need. Read the reasons in the table.
  • "Name why this unit is chosen ahead of the nearest": type a reason when you pick another driver.
  • "That skill is already on this person": it is recorded, so nothing more is needed.
