The Check tab records your check of the truck. You will be able to mark every item OK, Watch or Defect, add the odometer and photos, and see how many defects were recorded.
Before you start #
- A driver account linked to a driver record, and a truck.
- The Fleet licence flag is on (
dispatch_fleet). Without it the check is refused. - When your business requires a check before a shift, the check lets your shift start. See "Assignment rules".
Steps #
- Open the Check tab and choose the truck. It starts on your own truck.
- Choose the Type of check: Before the trip, After the trip or Defect report.
- Give every item a result: OK, Watch or Defect. The list has five sections: Cab and controls, Lights and signals, Wheels and tyres, Body and safety kit, and Towing equipment. Mark everything OK fills the whole list at once, and you then change the items that need attention. The page says how many items still need a result, and nothing saves until every item has one.
- For a Defect, describe the problem in the note. Items marked (Safety critical) are the service and parking brakes, steering, headlights, brake lights, turn signals, tyres, the winch, and hooks and chains.
- Add the odometer, a summary and photos of defects. All three are optional.
- Press Save check. The message says "Check saved" and how many defects were recorded.
What the result means #
- No defects: every item is OK or Watch. A Watch item records that something needs attention and creates no defect.
- Defects found: at least one item shows Defect. Each one becomes an open defect.
- Out of service: a Safety critical item shows Defect. The truck is marked out of service, and a trip cannot start on it until a manager clears the critical defect.
Technical details
- The list follows the areas named by the US driver vehicle inspection rule (49 CFR 396.11), plus the towing gear. Item names go to the record in English, so reports read the same for everyone.
- API call:
POST /fleet/inspectionswithasset_id,kind(pre,postordvir),odometeranditems(1 to 200, each withitem, state, and optionallysection, note, critical). The answer holdsoutcome,outcome_label,defectsandout_of_service. Clearing a defect (POST /fleet/defects/:id/clear) is for dispatchers and managers. - Without a signal the save waits in the Outbox. Photos for a check go with it. See "Working offline and the Outbox".
If something goes wrong #
- "{n} items still need a result." Give each item a result, then save again.
- "Choose the truck to check." Pick the truck first.
- "Something needs fixing." Fix what the page marks, then save again.
feature_not_licensed(403) orlicence_read_only(403): ask your manager to restore the licence.not_found(404): the truck was removed. Pick it again.- You cannot start a trip or shift on a truck that is out of service. Ask your manager to clear the critical defect.
