Checked against Pop Street Dispatch 0.1.0

The Tax section lists the rates you charge and sets which rate new invoice lines use. You will be able to add a rate, turn it on or off and choose a default for each kind of line. Dispatch fills in no rate for you, because rates change. You enter each one yourself.

Before you start #

You need the owner or manager role. Set the country and currency first. See "Country and currency settings".

Steps #

  1. Open Business settings and select Tax. The Tax rates table shows Code, Tax label, Kind, Rate, Valid, Status and Actions. A rate made of parts shows its parts after the label.
  2. To add a rate, fill in the "Add a tax rate" form:
    • Code and Tax label.
    • Kind: Sales tax, VAT, GST, IGST, CGST and SGST, Cess, Zero rated, Exempt or Other.
    • Rate in percent, for example 8.25. A rate is a number from 0 to 1000 with at most two decimals.
    • Country code, Region code, Valid from and Valid until, all optional.
  3. Select Add. The page shows "The tax rate is added." The form clears.
  4. To stop using a rate, select Turn off on its row. Select Turn on to use it again. Status shows On or Off. Old invoices keep their figures.
  5. Under "Default tax rate for each kind of line", choose a rate for Labor, Part, Tow, Storage, Fee, Sublet and Other. The list holds the rates that are on. Choose "No tax" to clear a default. The page shows "Saved". New invoice lines of that kind use the rate you chose.
Technical details
  • Rates are stored in hundredths of a percent. The screen turns the percent you type into that form.
  • Calls: POST /settings/tax-rates, PATCH /settings/tax-rates/{id} with active, and POST /settings/tax-defaults with line_kind and tax_rate_id.
  • Rounding and tax-inclusive prices are set under Country and currency. See "Tax rates and invoice tax" for how invoices use these settings.

If something goes wrong #

  • "Check the code, the label and the rate": the code or label is empty, or the rate falls outside 0 to 1000 or has more than two decimals.
  • A repeated code answers conflict: choose a code you have not used.
  • A rate is missing from a default list: it is turned off. Turn it on first.
