The Taxi tab in the driver app shows one screen at a time, chosen by where you are in the shift. You will be able to take offers, pick riders up, run the meter and end each trip.

Before you start #

  • Sign in to the driver app with your own account.
  • Keep location sharing on. The meter distance comes from your phone's position.
  • The office has to have your taxi set up (see taxi-shifts-and-vehicles).
  • Taxi is part of the Pro and Business editions.

Step by step #

  1. Open the Taxi tab. Under "Choose a taxi", pick your taxi and choose Start shift. The screen reads "Waiting for a trip".
  2. When an offer arrives, the card "Trip offer" shows a ring that counts down the seconds, the Pick-up, the Drop-off, "Distance to pick-up" as minutes away, the Passengers, a "Wheelchair accessible taxi needed" tag and any Notes.
  3. Choose Accept to take it, or Decline to pass it to the next driver. When the time reaches zero the card goes, and the offer moves on.
  4. After Accept, the screen reads "On the way to the rider". It shows the rider's name, a Call button for the phone number and a Navigate button. Navigate opens Apple Maps on an iPhone or iPad, and a web map on other phones.
  5. Choose "I have arrived" at the pick-up. The screen reads "At the pick-up" and times "Waiting for the rider".
  6. When the rider is in, choose Start trip. The meter starts. The time since you arrived counts as waiting time.
  7. During the trip, the screen shows the fare, Trip time, Distance and Waiting time, and a Navigate button for the drop-off. Use the button "Waiting: off" to switch it to "Waiting: on" while stopped for the rider, and back again to carry on.
  8. At the drop-off, choose End trip, add a tip and a payment, and choose "Confirm and end trip" (see taxi-tips-and-payment).
  9. The screen "Trip complete" shows the fare, tip, total and receipt number. Choose "Back to waiting".

When the rider does not show #

  1. After you have waited the number of minutes set in settings, the button "Rider did not show" appears at the pick-up.
  2. Choose it. The question "Rider did not show?" says that the office is told and the no-show fee applies. Choose "Yes, rider did not show".
  3. See taxi-cancel-and-no-show-fees for how the fee is set. Choose "Keep going" to stay and wait.

Pick up a street hail #

  1. On the screen "Waiting for a trip", choose "Start a street-hail trip". It shows while you are off a break.
  2. The trip starts at once from your current position, with the meter running. The pick-up reads "Street hail".
  3. Finish it like any trip: End trip, tip, payment, "Confirm and end trip". The trip log shows its source as street hail.

Breaks and the end of the shift #

  • Choose Start break to pause offers, and End break to return. A running break shows "Break time".
  • Choose End shift, then "Yes, end shift", when you are done. See taxi-shifts-and-vehicles.
  • The line "Today" at the top shows today's trips, fares and tips.

Receipts #

When the rider gave an email address, the receipt is emailed as the trip ends, and the screen says "Receipt emailed to" with the address. A street hail has no address, so the desk can send the receipt later (see taxi-receipts).

Technical details
  • Routes under /driver/taxi: the home read, vehicles, shift/start, shift/end, break/start, break/end, offers/:id/accept, offers/:id/decline, trips/:id/arrive, trips/:id/start, trips/:id/meter, trips/:id/end, trips/:id/no-show and hail.
  • The phone adds up the distance between position fixes. A fix that implies an impossible speed or arrives late is ignored. Distance and waiting time are sent in small batches with a repeat-safe key, so nothing is lost or counted twice when a send fails.
  • A trip priced as a flat fare keeps the flat fare. A metered trip is priced again from the measured distance and the waiting time.
  • The no-show button needs the arrival to be at least the "Minutes a driver waits before a no-show" ago.

If something goes wrong #

  • "That offer has run out.": the timer ended before Accept. The next driver has it.
  • "That offer is closed.": it was already answered or withdrawn.
  • "Start a shift first.": choose Start shift.
  • "Finish the trip in progress first.": end the current trip before a street hail.
  • "Wait (minutes) minutes after arriving before marking a no-show.": keep waiting.
  • Distance looks low after a signal gap: the meter adds what the phone reported. The office can see the final distance on the trip page.
