Checked against Pop Dispatch 0.1.0

The driver ends each trip with a tip and a payment. The tip belongs to the driver and stays separate from the fare, from the voucher and from the account statement. You will be able to end a trip with each payment method and read the result on the desk.

Before you start #

  • The trip has to be under way: the driver chose Start trip (see taxi-driver-mode).
  • A card payment needs the slip or terminal reference. Pop Dispatch has no card terminal built in. The driver takes the card with the shop's own terminal and records its reference.
  • For a voucher, the driver needs the code (see vouchers-and-account-codes).
  • Taxi is part of the Pro and Business editions.

End a trip #

  1. On the trip screen, choose End trip. The sheet shows the Fare.
  2. Under Tip, choose No tip, 10%, 15% or 20% of the fare, or Other and type an amount such as 2.50.
  3. Under Payment, choose how the rider pays:
    • Cash: nothing more to enter.
    • Card: type the Card reference. It is required.
    • Account: this choice appears when the trip is on a billing account. The sheet says "Charged to account (name)." Type the Authorisation code when the account asks for one.
    • Voucher: type the Voucher code.
  4. Check the summary: Fare, Tip and "Rider pays", which is the fare plus the tip.
  5. Choose "Confirm and end trip". The screen "Trip complete" shows the Fare, the Tip, the Total and the Receipt number. When the rider gave an email address, the line "Receipt emailed to" names it (see taxi-receipts).
  6. Choose "Back to waiting" to return to the line.

How each method is recorded #

  • Cash and Card: the rider pays the driver the fare, and the trip shows as paid.
  • Account: the fare goes on the billing account and the trip shows as billed. The rider pays the tip to the driver. The tip never appears on the account statement (see billing-accounts-and-statements).
  • Voucher: the voucher pays the fare and the trip shows as paid. The tip stays with the driver.

Read the result on the desk #

Open the trip from the board. The page lists Fare, Extras, Tip, Fee and Total, and under Payment the method and one of: nothing due, fee due, billed or paid. The Voucher and Authorisation code lines show what was used.

Technical details
  • Route: POST /driver/taxi/trips/:id/end with method (cash, card, account or voucher), tip_cents, card_ref, auth_code and voucher_code.
  • A percentage tip is the fare times 10, 15 or 20 percent, rounded to the nearest cent.
  • The tip limit is 1,000.00 for one trip.
  • The payment, the tip, the voucher amount and the card reference are stored together, with the driver who collected it. The audit log records the end of the trip with the fare, the tip and the method.
  • The meter distance and waiting time are sent just before the trip ends. When the office server cannot be reached for that, the totals travel with the end of the trip.
  • The total on the trip page is the fare plus any fee plus the tip.

If something goes wrong #

  • "Enter the tip as an amount, for example 2.50.": correct the tip.
  • "Enter the card reference.": type the slip or terminal reference.
  • "Enter the authorisation code for this account.": type the code the account holder gave.
  • "Enter the voucher code.": type the code.
  • "That tip is larger than the limit.": lower the tip.
  • "The voucher does not cover the fare. Take the rest in cash or by card.": the voucher's face value is below the fare, so the rider pays another way.
  • "Only a trip that is under way can be ended.": the trip has not started or has ended.
