Getting started

Set up a company, add your accounts and enter your first month.

Updated Nov 2, 2026

Pop Books keeps one set of books. You can look at it in two ways (see "Plain and Accountant view").

First run

  1. Create or open a company. Choose your country; this sets the currency, the tax lines and how long records are kept.
  2. Check the list of accounts. Rename or add accounts any time. Nothing is locked on day one.
  3. Add your customers and suppliers, or import them (see the switching guides).
  4. Import a bank file or enter your first invoice or bill.

Finding your way

  • Press Ctrl K (Cmd K on a Mac) to jump to a screen, a name, an amount or a code such as inv.
  • The Create button starts anything new.
  • The status bar at the bottom shows your edit history check and your latest snapshot.

Good habits from the start

  • Take a snapshot after your first import.
  • Save your recovery key somewhere that is never this computer.
  • Work through the month-end checklist at the end of each month.
