Pop Books Vault, your backups on our server

What Vault keeps, why we cannot read it, how many copies stay, what happens when the year ends, and how to restore on a new computer.

Updated Nov 2, 2026

Pop Books Vault keeps encrypted backups of your companies on the Pop Books website. If a computer is lost or its disk fails, you can get your books back on another computer.

What we can and cannot see

Every backup is sealed on your computer before it is sent. The key to open it never leaves your computer in a form our server can use. We store a sealed file. We can never read it, and nobody who breaks into our server can read it either.

The server does learn a few plain facts: which licence the backups belong to, when each one was made, how big it is, the name you gave the computer, and how many companies you have. It never receives a company name, a user name, a customer, an amount or a note.

What is kept

  • Choose hourly, daily, weekly or off, and press Back up now whenever you like.
  • For each company, the newest 3 backups are kept. When a new one finishes, the oldest is overwritten with random data and then deleted.
  • One Vault covers all your companies, up to 10 GB in total. The app tells you when it is almost full.
  • The first year is free with every paid licence. Free edition customers can add Vault. After the first year it renews for a yearly price shown on your account page, with the price for your country applied.

Restore on a new computer

  1. Install Pop Books on the new computer.
  2. Choose Restore from the Vault and sign in to your Pop Books account. You get an 8-digit code by email, with no password to remember.
  3. Pick one of the 3 backups for the company you want.
  4. Unlock it with your 24 words. If you set a Vault password in the app, you can use that instead.

Keep the 24 words safe

The 24 words are the only way to open a backup if you have lost the Vault password. If you lose the 24 words and the password, nobody can open the Vault copy, and that includes us. Write the words down and keep them somewhere safe. We never ask for them.

If you use a Vault password, make it long. Someone who copied a backup could try to guess a short password, so a long phrase protects you best.

When the year ends

  • New backups pause. Your older backups stay and you can still download and delete them for 60 days.
  • After 60 days every backup for that licence is deleted.
  • If you renew before then, new backups start again and the existing ones are still there.

Delete your backups

You can delete one backup, or all of them, in the app. You can also open your account on the website, choose Vault, and press Delete all Vault backups. The files are overwritten and removed. The account page shows sizes and dates only, never contents.
