The Driver pay screen holds each tow driver's pay method and reports what each driver earned for a period. You will be able to set a percentage or a flat amount per job and export the result.

Before you start #

You need the owner, manager or fleet staff role. Active drivers appear on the screen automatically.

Steps #

  1. Open Tow, then Driver pay. Every active driver is listed. A driver with no method set shows none.
  2. For each driver, choose the method:
    • Percent: a share of the job total. You type a percentage such as 15.
    • Flat: a fixed amount for every completed job.
  3. Save. To clear a driver's method, remove it and save.
  4. Pick the period with the from and to dates.
  5. Read the report. Each driver's row shows the jobs, the revenue and the commission. The totals sit below.
  6. Choose a driver to see the jobs behind the figure: job number, completed date, job total and commission.
  7. Export the report as a CSV file for payroll.
  8. To close a driver's period, choose Close period on the driver's row. The jobs not yet paid in that period become a pay run with a number such as PR-0001. The report then marks those jobs as paid, and a later run never counts them again.
  9. When you have paid the driver, open Pay runs and choose Mark paid. You can set the date paid; it defaults to today.

A driver paid by the hour has no per-job commission, so the report shows the jobs without a commission figure. A call a partner company took (see partner-companies-and-sent-jobs) stays out of your driver's pay.

The report counts tow jobs with the status completed and a completion time inside the period, credited to the driver assigned to the job.

Technical details
  • Profiles: GET /tow/pay/profiles and POST /tow/pay/profiles/:driver with method and value. A percent value is stored in basis points (1500 is 15%). A flat value is in cents per completed job. {"method": null} clears it.
  • Report: GET /tow/pay/report?from=&to=&driver_id=. The per-job lines come back when a driver is given. CSV: GET /tow/pay/report.csv?from=&to=.
  • Pay runs: GET /tow/pay/runs, POST /tow/pay/runs with driver_id, from and to (answers 409 "Nothing unpaid in that period." when every job is already in a run), and POST /tow/pay/runs/:id/paid with an optional paid_on.
  • The method is kept on the driver profile (pay_mode: percent, per call or hourly). Percent is in hundredths of a percent and commission rounds half up to the cent.
  • Money is in cents and dates are YYYY-MM-DD.

If something goes wrong #

  • A driver is missing from the list: the driver is inactive. Reactivate the driver.
  • Close period says nothing is unpaid: every job in those dates is already in a pay run, or the driver has no percentage or flat method set.
  • A job is missing from the report: it is still open, or it completed outside the period.
  • The screen is refused: it needs the owner, manager or fleet staff role.
