When every seat is taken, the next person who tries to sign in sees a message that lists who is using the seats. An owner or manager can sign any device out from afar, and the seat is free straight away. You will be able to free a seat in two clicks and get your team back to work.

Before you start #

  • You need an owner or manager account.
  • You need one place where you are already signed in, such as the web console, the Mac app or the Windows app.

Steps #

  1. Open Settings, then Licence.
  2. Under "Who is using seats", find a device nobody needs, such as a laptop left signed in overnight.
  3. Choose Sign out next to it.
  4. The meter drops by one. The person who was turned away can sign in again now.

The device you signed out goes back to the sign-in screen at its next request. Nothing is lost: records saved on it stay saved.

When you are the one turned away #

If an owner or manager tries to sign in on the web console and every seat is taken, the sign-in screen shows the same list with a "Sign out and continue" button next to each device. Choose one and you are signed in at once.

Other roles see who holds the seats and are asked to contact an owner or manager.

If something goes wrong #

  • The device comes back at once: the person signs in on it again and takes a seat. Ask them to sign out when they finish.
  • You want more seats for good: see "Add seats or upgrade".
  • The list shows a device you do not recognise: sign it out, then change that person's password in Settings, Security.
