Checked against Pop Dispatch 0.1.0

The Mac app is the native version of the dispatch console. It shows the same calls, yard, repair orders and invoices as the web console, and it keeps working when the network drops. You will be able to sign in and move between screens with the keyboard.

Before you start #

You need the address of your Pop Dispatch server and the email and password your owner gave you. The app needs macOS 14 or later.

Steps #

  1. Open Pop Dispatch. The first time, macOS shows a warning because the app carries no Apple notarisation. See "Installing Pop Dispatch on a Mac" for the Open Anyway steps.
  2. Type the server address, your email and your password, then choose Sign in. The address looks like http://192.168.1.20:8480 or https://dispatch.yourshop.example.
  3. If this is your first sign-in with a one-time password, the app asks for a new password of at least 10 characters.
  4. Owners and managers also use an authenticator app. The first time, the app shows a key to add to your authenticator app. Type the 6-digit code it shows. After that, type the code each time you sign in.
  5. The sidebar lists the screens your role can open. Choose one, or press Command-1, Command-2 and so on.

What you see on every screen #

  • Connection chip at the top right: Online, Offline or Syncing, with the number of changes waiting to be sent. Choose it to send waiting changes now.
  • Help (question mark, Command-/): articles for the screen you are on, and the tour of that screen.
  • Language: Settings (Command-comma) switches between English and Hindi. Dates, times and amounts follow your business settings.

Technical details

The window is a SwiftUI app over a Rust engine. The engine talks to the server, keeps an encrypted copy of what you have read and a queue of what you have changed, and formats amounts and dates. Your sign-in token is kept in the login Keychain on this Mac only.

If something goes wrong #

  • "The server cannot be reached": check the address, then check that the server is running. See "Working offline on the Mac".
  • "The email and password pair failed, or too many attempts were made": wait a few minutes, then try again. Your owner can reset the password.
