Checked against Pop Dispatch 0.1.0

A motor club sends you work by phone or by email. Pop Dispatch turns each one into a tow call linked to the club's account, with the club's PO or dispatch number, the ETA you promised and the rates the club pays.

Before you start #

You need the dispatcher, advisor, manager or owner role. For email, map the labels in the club's message (such as PO and Pickup) to Pop Dispatch fields once, using the dispatch mail mapping.

Steps #

In the web console, choose Motor clubs in the menu. The page lists every club job with its call number, status, club, dispatch number, the ETA you promised and the quote. Choose Details on a row to see the rates and the time the call came in, or the call number to open the tow call.

  1. For a phone call, enter the club name, the dispatch number, the pickup, the drop-off, the vehicle, the ETA in minutes, and the rates the club quoted: hookup, per mile, included miles and other charges.
  2. For an email, open Read a dispatch email, paste the subject and body, and check the label list (one line for each label, written Label = field). Choose Read the email. Pop Dispatch fills the form with the fields it finds. Check them, change anything the email got wrong, and continue. Anything you type yourself replaces what the email said.
  3. Choose Take the job. A club met for the first time gets its own account. The tow call is created with payment on account, the PO field set to the dispatch number and the ETA on the call.
  4. Read the quote on the job. It is the hookup plus the per-mile charge beyond the included miles, plus other charges.
  5. Watch the list of club jobs. A job whose promised ETA has passed while the call still waits shows as overdue.

A live link to a motor club's own dispatch system is an optional connector that needs an outside connection. Until one is set up, you enter each job by phone or read it from the club's email, and both work in full.

Technical details
  • POST /tow/motor-club/jobs creates the call and GET /tow/motor-club/jobs lists club jobs. Both need the Tow group of roles.
  • Mapped fields: club, dispatch_no, pickup, drop, vehicle, eta_minutes, contact_name, contact_phone, notes and miles. ETA reads as minutes, such as 45, 45 min, 1h30 or 1:30.
  • A dispatch number is taken once for each club. Sending it again answers with the call it already made.
  • The club record keeps the source (phone or email), the time the call came in and the rates, so a quote can be checked later.

If something goes wrong #

  • "Enter the club's PO or dispatch number": the club job needs it.
  • "Dispatch number ... is already on call": the club sent the same number twice. Open the call it names.
  • "That account has a different type": pick a motor club account or type the club name.
