Switching to Pop Books
What you can switch from, the steps, the dry run, the proof check and the 30-day undo.
Updated Nov 2, 2026
You can bring your books over from an older product without retyping them. It works from files you export, so Pop Books never signs in to your old product and makes no network call to it. Open Switch from… in the side rail.
Where you can switch from
Pick your product for the export steps. Each guide is short.
- QuickBooks Online
- QuickBooks Desktop
- Xero
- Zoho Books
- Tally
- Busy
- Wave
- FreshBooks
- Sage 50
- Manager.io
- GnuCash
- Drake Accounting
- Excel
- Google Sheets
- Pasted cells
What to do
- Read the article for your product and export the files it lists.
- Choose Switch from…, then From another product or From a spreadsheet.
- Drop in the files. Check the columns it found, and the account types it guessed.
- Choose your cut-over date, the day you start in Pop Books.
- Choose what to bring in. Balances at the cut-over date is recommended. It carries over each account's balance from your old trial balance, and any difference goes to Opening Balance Equity. Full general ledger history brings in every journal.
- Run the dry run. It shows what would come in, and any rows to look at. Nothing is written yet.
- Choose Bring it in. Open invoices and bills become issued documents.
- Download the proof check (PDF). It sets your old trial balance next to the new one and lists any difference.
Taking your books with you
On the same screen, Export everything makes one ZIP with Excel and CSV files of your accounts, contacts, products, every journal line, the trial balance, invoices, bills and payments. It works in any licence state.
Important
- You can undo for 30 days. Choose Undo this switch. Documents are voided and entries reversed. The history keeps both.
- You need permission to import data. Read-only users can look but not bring anything in.
- Credit notes and partly paid documents are not brought in as documents. They are listed as rows to look at.
- Bank lines from a spreadsheet are added after the main import and are not part of the undo.
- The export steps come from general knowledge and each product's documentation. They have not been checked against a live copy. Menu names change, so look for the closest name.
- The screen has not yet been tried by hand against every product's real export. Keep your old product until you are happy with the proof check.
