Checked against Pop Dispatch 0.1.0

Pop Dispatch starts a Canadian business with Canadian dollars, kilometres, litres and dates written year-month-day. You will be able to set the country, pick your province's time zone, add your tax numbers and load the tax rates for your province.

Before you start #

You need the owner or manager role. Choose the country before anything else is saved, because the first save applies the starting values for that country. Have your GST/HST number ready, and your QST number or provincial PST number if you hold one.

Steps #

  1. Open Business settings and select Country and currency.
  2. Type CA in Country code. A Province or territory list appears.
  3. Choose your province or territory. The Time zone field takes the zone most of that province uses, for example America/Toronto for Ontario or America/Regina for Saskatchewan. Change the field when your base is in another zone of the same province.
  4. Check the currency (CAD), the Distance unit (Kilometres), the Volume unit (Litres) and the Date order (Year, month, day). Change any of them for your business.
  5. Select Save. The page shows "Saved". Document types for Canada are added at the same time: registration, insurance, safety inspection, CVOR certificate, NSC carrier profile, driver's licence, licence class, medical certificate and driver's abstract.
  6. Open Tax. Load the template for your province, as described in "GST, HST, PST and QST".
  7. In the same section, add your numbers under Tax registration numbers.

Canadian postal codes read as A1A 1A1. The first letter tells the province: for example V is British Columbia, M is Toronto, H is Montreal and T is Alberta.

Technical details
  • The preset is TenantLocale::preset("CA"). The tax number type is set to Other, because a business can hold several numbers; they live in tax_registrations.
  • Time zones per province are listed in core/src/canada.rs. Provinces with two clocks, such as British Columbia and Quebec, list the second zone there.
  • Document types carry names and tags only. Which of CVOR (Ontario) or NSC applies to a vehicle, and which licence class a driver needs, is yours to confirm with your province.
  • Mac and Windows apps read the same settings from the server.

If something goes wrong #

  • The Province list is empty: the server could not be reached; reload the page.
  • The currency will not change: an invoice or payment exists, so the currency is locked.
  • A save shows an error on the time zone: type a zone name such as America/Vancouver.
