If your trucks already carry a Samsara, Motive or Geotab device, Pop Dispatch can fetch their positions and show them on the Live map. You will be able to connect one or more of these accounts, match each vehicle to one of your assets and bring the positions in.
You bring your own vendor account. The Pop Street has no partnership with these vendors and charges no fee for the connection. A vendor may charge you for access to its programming interface (API). Ask your vendor before you start.
Before you start #
- The owner saves the keys and switches a connection on. Owners and managers can change the vehicle matching. Dispatchers can read the cards.
- Each vehicle you want on the map is an asset in Fleet (see fleet-assets-screens).
- What you need from your vendor account:
- Samsara: an API token.
- Motive: an API key.
- Geotab: a user name, a password and the database name. The server address is optional.
Steps #
- Open Settings, then Connections. Each vendor has a card showing its status: off, saved, connected or error.
- On the card, paste the credentials you collected from your vendor and save. Pop Dispatch seals them and hides them after saving.
- Choose Test connection. A passing test reads "ok" and lists the vehicles it found. Fix the credentials if it fails.
- Switch the connection on. The switch works after a passing test.
- Open the vehicle matching. Each vehicle from the vendor shows beside a menu of your assets. Match each one, or leave it unmatched.
- Choose Sync now. The result reports how many positions were fetched, how many were stored and how many belonged to unmatched vehicles.
- Open the Live map. Matched vehicles show their pins and a track (see reading-the-live-map).
To stop, switch the connection off, or remove it to delete the saved credentials.
Technical details
- Cards:
GET /integrations/telematics. Save:PUT /integrations/telematics/:provider(api_tokenfor Samsara,api_keyfor Motive,username,password,databaseandserverfor Geotab). Test:POST .../test. Switch:POST .../enablewithenabled. Remove:DELETE. - Vehicles:
GET .../vehiclesandPOST .../vehicles/mapwithexternal_idandasset_id(null removes the match). Sync:POST .../sync. - Positions land in the position history with the source
hardwareand the device id<provider>:<external_id>. - Secrets are sealed in storage and left out of every reply.
If something goes wrong #
- Test connection fails: re-copy the credential from your vendor account, then test again. The card shows the last error.
- The switch refuses to turn on: run a passing test first.
- Sync reports unmatched vehicles: match them in step 5, then sync again.
- A vehicle has no pin: check it is matched and that the vendor has sent a position.
